Sprague is the perfect place to live in eastern Connecticut. It’s located right on the “border” between northeastern and southeastern Connecticut, within minutes of Rt. 395, and is an easy (45 minutes) commute to the New London area, and close (35 minutes) to both the University of Connecticut’s Main Campus and Eastern Connecticut State University. Its three villages, Baltic, Hanover and Versailles, are rich in history, charm and architectural significance. Baltic was once home to one of the largest textile mills in the country and the entire village is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Sprague is undergoing a renaissance as it begins to implement its infrastructure and economic development projects and moves forward with plans for the establishment of a business park zone close to Rt. 395, where the Cascade/Sprague Paperboard Company is located. The Town’s recent acquisition of the Baltic Mills property promises exciting things for the revitalization of the downtown area.

Sprague’s most important resource is the Shetucket River and the people who have lived on it for generations. Sprague residents are proud of their town and its unsurpassed natural beauty and history, located as it is in the Quinebaug-Shetucket Heritage Corridor/Last Green Valley. Sprague currently boasts over 600 acres of Town-owned open space, including over 1.5 miles of river frontage and a large reservoir. Because Sprague is a little more “out of the way” than its neighbors to the south it has had the advantage of learning from other towns and initiating forward-thinking planning giving conservation, responsible growth, and quality of life issues the highest priority.
